From the Twin Cities (Approximately 2 hours)
The quickest way to the Wisconsin Great Northern
Railroad from the Twin Cities metro area is to take I-35 N to the Rock Creek
exit. At the top of the exit ramp turn right onto MN Hwy 70. Travel
east on Hwy 70 crossing into Wisconsin then passing through towns of Grantsburg,
Alpha and Falun on your way to Siren. When you come into Siren you will
turn left onto Wis. Hwy 35/70 at the traffic light. Proceed north on Wis.
Hwy 35/70 through town, approximately 2.5 miles. Turn right onto Wis. Hwy
70 at the north end of Siren. Travel east on Wis. Hwy 70 approximately 22
miles to Spooner. As you enter Spooner you will travel through the traffic
light and proceed 1 block then turn left onto Front street. Travel north
on Front street for 4 blocks to stop sign. Proceed through stop sign and
look for Train Parking sign in middle of block on right. Turn right into
driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From Eau Claire/Chippewa Falls
(Approximately 1.3 hours)
Get on U.S. Hwy 53 in the Eau Claire/Chippewa
Falls area. Travel north on U.S. Hwy 53 for approximately 70 miles past
exits for Bloomer, New Auburn, Chetek, Cameron, Rice Lake, Haugen, Sarona until
reaching exit for Wis. Hwy 70 at Spooner. Take exit ramp, at top of ramp
turn left, head west on Wis. Hwy 70 for approximately 1.2 miles into Spooner.
Turn right on Front street, directly across from the American Heritage Inn.
Travel north on Front street for 4 blocks to stop sign. Proceed through
stop sign and look for Train Parking sign in middle of block on right.
Turn right into driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From the Twin Ports (Approximately 1.2 hours)
Head southeast on U.S. Hwy 2/53, approximately 10
miles east of Superior, exit south onto U.S. Hwy 53. Travel south on U.S.
Hwy 53 passing through towns of Solon Springs, Gordon, Wascott, Minong, Trego
then exit onto U.S. Hwy 63 at Spooner. Continue south on U.S. Hwy 63
entering the City of Spooner, turn left onto elm street which is the first
street past the Dairy Queen. Travel east 1 block on elm street to stop
sign. At stop sign turn right onto Front street. Travel 100ft on
Front street and look for Train Parking sign in middle of block on left.
Turn left into driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From Ashland/Cable/Hayward
From Ashland/Cable/Hayward travel south on U.S.
Hwy 63. Upon arrival in Springbrook, train may be boarded when scheduled.
To reach Spooner Depot continue south on U.S. Hwy 63 passing through Earl.
At Trego, turn left onto divided highway U.S. Hwy 53/63. Proceed south on
U.S. Hwy 53/63, then exit onto U.S. Hwy 63 at Spooner. Continue south on
U.S. Hwy 63 entering the City of Spooner, turn left onto elm street which is the
first street past the Dairy Queen. Travel east 1 block on elm street to
stop sign. At stop sign turn right onto Front street. Travel 100ft
on Front street and look for Train Parking sign in middle of block on left.
Turn left into driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From St. Croix Falls/Turtle
Lake/Cumberland
From St. Croix Falls travel east on U.S. Hwy 8 to
Turtle Lake. Travel through Turtle Lake and make a left turn onto U.S. Hwy
63 on the eastern edge of Turtle Lake. Travel north on U.S. Hwy 63 passing
through Comstock, Cumberland, Barronett, Shell Lake and into Spooner. At
first stop light in Spooner turn right onto Wis. Hwy 70, travel 1 block and turn
left onto Front street. Travel north on Front street for 4 blocks to stop
sign. Proceed through stop sign and look for Train Parking sign in middle
of block on right. Turn right into driveway and follow signs to parking
area and ticket office.
From Stone Lake (Approximately 20 minutes)
From Stone Lake travel west on Wis. Hwy 70
passing over U.S. Hwy 53 and proceeding into Spooner. Turn right on Front
street, directly across from the American Heritage Inn. Travel north on
Front street for 4 blocks to stop sign. Proceed through stop sign and look
for Train Parking sign in middle of block on right. Turn right into
driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From Birchwood (Approximately 30 minutes)
From Birchwood, travel south on Wis. Hwy 48.
Turn right onto Cty Hwy. V. Proceed west on Cty Hwy. V to intersection
with U.S. Hwy 53. Turn right onto U.S. Hwy 53 and proceed north to Wis.
Hwy 70 exit at Spooner. Take exit ramp, at top of ramp turn left, head
west on Wis. Hwy 70 for approximately 1.2 miles into Spooner. Turn right
on Front street, directly across from the American Heritage Inn. Travel
north on Front street for 4 blocks to stop sign. Proceed through stop sign
and look for Train Parking sign in middle of block on right. Turn right
into driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
From Long Lake (Approximately 20 minutes)
Proceed north on Cty Hwy M to intersection with
Cty Hwy B. Turn left onto Cty Hwy B and proceed west to intersection with
U.S. Hwy 53. Turn right onto U.S. Hwy 53 and proceed north to Wis. Hwy 70
exit at Spooner. Take exit ramp, at top of ramp turn left, head west on
Wis. Hwy 70 for approximately 1.2 miles into Spooner. Turn right on Front
street, directly across from the American Heritage Inn. Travel north on
Front street for 4 blocks to stop sign. Proceed through stop sign and look
for Train Parking sign in middle of block on right. Turn right into
driveway and follow signs to parking area and ticket office.
