LOCOMOTIVES

WGN #423       1949 EMD F-7A    Former Chicago & Northwestern #4076A, then #423 finally NJT #423.  Rebuilt by WGNR during 2001, now fully operational, repainted into WGNR Omaha Orange and Pullman Green paint scheme.

WGN #862    1940 EMC SW1    Former Milwaukee Road locomotive, lasted used by Peavey at Red Rock Terminal in Newport, MN.  Acquired and rebuilt by WGNR in 1997.  Repainted into WGNR Omaha Orange and Pullman Green paint scheme.

 

PASSENGER CARS

WGN #26  "East Lexington"     12 section, 1 drawing room Pullman Sleeper built by Pullman in Chicago in 1925.  Car was part of Pullman Company Pool and originally saw service on 20th Century Limited.  Sold to Gulf, Mobile & Ohio (GM&O) in 1948.  Supposedly scrapped in 1963.  Acquired by D&NM in 1995.  Currently under restoration.        

D&NM #28 "Arrowhead"        Built as an 80 seat coach by American Car and Foundry Company of St. Charles, MO in 1912, for the Duluth & Iron Range Railway (D&IR).  Operated between Duluth and Ely, MN and was extensively rebuilt by DM&IR in 1938.  One vestibule was removed and replaced with solarium lounge.  Car continued in regular passenger service until late 1950's and was used on several railfan excursions in early 1960's.  Rebuilt into a crew sleeper for track gangs in the late 1960's.  Donated to Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad in Duluth in early 1980's and then sold to Duluth & Northern Minnesota in 1994.  Completely rebuilt into current configuration as first class diner-lounge in 1995.  Photos

D&NM #32 "Apostle Isle"        Built as an 80 seat coach by Pullman Company of Chicago, IL in 1918, for the Duluth & Iron Range Railway (D&IR).  Operated between Duluth and Ely, MN.   Car continued in regular passenger service until late 1950's and was used on several railfan excursions in early 1960's.  Rebuilt into a crew sleeper for track gangs in the late 1960's.  Donated to Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad in Duluth in early 1980's and then sold to Duluth & Northern Minnesota in 1996.  Completely rebuilt into current configuration as 64 seat diner with buffet kitchen in 1996.

WGN #34 "Presque Isle"            Built as an 80 seat coach by Pullman Company of Chicago, IL in 1918, for the Duluth & Iron Range Railway (D&IR).  Operated between Duluth and Ely, MN.   Car continued in regular passenger service until late 1950's and was used on several railfan excursions in early 1960's.  Rebuilt into foremans office and kitchen/diner for track gangs in the early 1970's.  Retained as car shop conference room by DM&IR until sale to WGNR in July, 1997.  Completely rebuilt into current configuration as 56 seat diner with full kitchen in 2000.

WGN #112 "Richard F. Gilberg"        Built as a mail and express car by American Car & Foundry of St. Charles, MO in 1912, for the Duluth & Iron Range Railway (D&IR).  Operated between Duluth and Ely, MN.   Car continued in regular passenger service until late 1950's.  Rebuilt into a tool car for track gangs in the late 1960's.  Retained by DM&IR for use with Big Hook X-7 until purchased by WGNR in July of 1997.  Completely rebuilt into current configuration as snack bar and gift shop during 1997 and 1998.
